35th straight week of anti-judicial reform protests focus on education
Thousands of Israelis took to the streets in cities across the country on Saturday evening for the 35th week in a row to protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and its judicial reform.
The central demonstration in Tel Aviv’s Kaplan Street went ahead as planned, despite violent clashes between Eritrean asylum seekers and the Israeli police in the city on Saturday.
As in recent weeks, the protests focused on a specific aspect of the government’s policy, in addition to the main protest against the judicial reform.
This week, protesters decried the “collapse of the values of the education system and the destruction of state education,” one day after the start of the new school year.
