27 killed, 26 wounded in separate shootings in South Africa
Twenty-seven people were killed and 26 wounded in two separate shootings that occurred within a few hours of each other in South Africa last night and in the early hours of this morning.
Police have launched a search for the gunmen in Johannesburg and Cape Town, where the two shootings took place. Emergency medical services declared 13 males and 4 females dead at the scene in Johannesburg. The motive for the shooting was not immediately known, according to a statement posted by the South African Police Service on 𝕏.
“Suspects were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols,” the statement said. The shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time yesterday in Gauteng province, and 15 people were wounded in the attack.
In Cape Town, 10 people were killed and 11 wounded, police said. Gunmen entered an entertainment venue in Lwandle at 1:46 a.m. and “shot at patrons,” police said. Five of the victims died at the scene.
