This didn’t come out of nowhere. The recent outbreak of violence in southern Syria may seem sudden — sparked by a fight between Druze and Bedouin factions — but in reality, it’s the result of long-simmering ethnic tensions and political neglect.

As horrific images emerged from the region, Israel’s Druze community watched in shock — and some even crossed the border in protest or solidarity. A ceasefire has since been declared, but it remains dangerously fragile.
