In a precedent-setting decision, Israel’s High Court of Justice ordered the government to enforce measures against ultra-Orthodox individuals who evade military service, including imposing economic sanctions such as housing discounts and public transportation benefits.

The justices said the ruling was made “with a heavy heart,” citing the government’s continued failure to comply with the law and previous court decisions on the issue.
